Virtual Networking & Remote Conferencing Tips and Tricks

Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 30 June 2020 | 6pm – 8pm | Virtual Meeting via Zoom

Hi members!

One of the challenges COVID-19 has thrown at us is the need to work remotely.  This means using video conferencing and to many of us, it is the main form of communication with our colleagues, clients and customers.

Now that we are few months into this new world, we thought it was timely that we share our remote working tips and tricks with some virtual networking!

You will learn about virtual backgrounds, sharing screens and sound, creating and managing break out rooms, viewing participants, and lot more.

Grab your favourite drink and a snack and log on to hear the good, the funny and the scarily bad experiences of the virtual world and perhaps share some of your own learnings and encounters.

Influence and Impact in crisis and uncertainty.

Hi members!

For our next session on Tuesday 26 May 2020, we are delighted to welcome back Dr Alicia Fortinberry, Principal at Fortinberry Murray, to present Influence and Impact in crisis and uncertainty.

These turbulent times offer both risk and opportunity. Firms are forced to make cutbacks and leaders face difficult decisions with no clear line of sight to the future. Fear, anxiety, anger and the resulting paralysis are widespread.  In this environment, technical knowledge is not enough to thrive, or in some cases even survive, in business. And just when you need to be seen to add value as a calming, confidant presence and supportive influencer you are often forced to do so virtually.  You can’t count on being able to just drop by someone’s office for a chat or bond through gossip on the way to a meeting.

Dr Alicia Fortinberry is globally recognized for her ability to help people radically improve their lives and careers.  She offers practical, simple skills and concepts based on the latest science that really work in business and at home. You will gain tips and tools you can start to use immediately to:
    • Read others’ mood and concerns
    • Project calm, confidence and focus during any interaction
    • Get people committed to you and your ideas
    • Enhance your own and others’ mood and resilience
    • Become indispensable as a trusted advisor, colleague or leader
Alicia is an internationally recognised expert in strategy, leadership, influencing, human motivation and organisational change. Drawing on the latest science in neurobiology, genetics and a wide range of other “human sciences” she enables individuals and organisations to thrive. Her proven, practical concepts and tools drive successful relationships, resilience, culture, leadership and strategy.

Alicia works extensively with top-tier professional and financial service organisations as well as Global Fortune 500 companies in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.
With her partner Dr Bob Murray, she received the prestigious US Science Achievement Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science for their work on personality and change. Based on their work on workplace stress, they were appointed to head the US government’s comprehensive National Work Stress Initiative under President Obama’s administration. Their books include The Human Science of Strategy: What works and what doesn’t and Leading the Future: The Human Science of Law Firm Strategy and Leadership (both ARK Group, London) and two popular best-sellers Creating Optimism, and Raising an Optimistic Child (both McGraw-Hill, New York).

Virtual Meeting via Zoom - Turn Your Fear into Growth and Success

Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 30 March 2020| 5.30pm – 8pm | Virtual Meeting via Zoom

For our first completely virtual session of 2020, we are excited to welcome fellow Women in Business committee member and founder and Principal Consultant at Equilibrium Consulting and Coaching, Anna Bashkirova CPA, to present "Turn Your Fear into Growth and Success".

As Warren Buffet says: "If you cannot control emotions, you cannot control money". Right now the same principle applies to the whole life. Fear is a topic that is prevalent today and for some it is debilitating. It does not have to be. No one needs to go it alone. Humanity needs to be connected now more than ever. You are invited to join a fireside style chat where you will learn
·        What emotional needs humans have and what happens when they are not met,
·        How different people respond to fear,
·        How you can manage it in a healthy way, beyond the advice "to stay positive".
You will also learn how to help your team members and family to do the same. Then we will look into developing strategies to position ourselves for growth going forward.
Anna is a coach and trainer on emotional fitness, high performance mindset and leadership. She is a human behaviour specialist, passionate about helping people to manage the risk of not managing their emotions in a healthy way.
Prior to that, Anna had a previous career in IT where she consulted accountants, finance managers and CFOs around accounting systems for medium and large organisations. She is also a property developer, a "cool mum" of a 21 year old electrical engineering student and a long term member of this discussion group.

To dial in, please follow the link that was supplied in your email from CPA Women.

WIB DG Last session of 2019 with special guest Peter Mansour

Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 26 November 2019| 5.30pm – 8pm | CPA Centre Level 3, 111 Harrington St Sydney

For our November session, we are excited to welcome Peter Mansour CPA for an informal Q & A session, highlighting the different professional journeys available as CPA members.
Peter Mansour CPA is the founder and principal partner at Peter Mansour & Co, a boutique accounting practice in Burwood Sydney. Peter now represents many high-profile brands and individuals in a variety of sectors.
During the past 18 months Peter diversified and founded a start-up Strata Alert, a new technology platform for the strata sector. Having spent so many years running his accounting practice in an office building, and acting as chairman of his building body corporate, Peter felt frustrated at the complete breakdown in communication for strata issues with inefficiencies and duplication of time.
Strata Alert is the easiest way that all owners, occupants and strata manager stay up to date for all their strata issues. Alerts, notifications, groups and online chat features led Strata Alert to be recognized by Westpac as a Business of Tomorrow Top 200 winner.
In September 2019, Strata Alert was also the winner for “Best Emerging Idea” category at the prestigious Committee for Sydney 2019 smart city awards.
Peter as Founder and CEO has applied and received smart city grants on behalf of Strata Alert from the NSW Government and City of Sydney. Peter has worked with City of Sydney to enhance the technology platform to also focus on social connections for people living in vertical buildings.
Peter is now considered as an influencer and proptech expert and his opinion sought after. With the debacle of the Sydney Opal and Mascot Towers, plus the appointment of a new building commissioner in New South Wales to overhaul the building and strata sector, Peter has well positioned Strata Alert with smart city technology solutions. It is expected within 7 years, 85% of Australians will be living in apartments.
Peter attributes most of his success to his training, discipline and experience as a CPA.
As it is our last session for the year, we will be serving canapes and giving away lucky door prizes.
RSVP by email to Reis at cpawibfb@gmail.com or via Facebook by 5pm Friday 22 November 2019.

An Insider’s Guide to an ERP Transformation Journey

Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 29 October 2019| 5.30pm – 8pm | CPA Centre Level 3, 111 Harrington St Sydney

For our October session we are excited to welcome Belle Rivera, Solution Lead and Project Manager at Annexa to present An Insider’s Guide to an ERP Transformation Journey.
We know we need new technology to keep up with the demands of a modern CFO, but where do we start? Coming from the accounting world herself, Belle Rivera will share with us things she wished she knew when she was still in finance. Belle will guide you on how to cut through the hype and get to what really matters: “Is this the right system for me”.

EDI, WMS, API… Learn what they mean and find out if you need it. Belle will talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly AFTER you decide you need a new system. Stay ahead of the game, build your confidence, and avoid the common pitfalls plaguing today’s implementations.

Belle Rivera is an accomplished accounting and IT professional who has lead numerous successful ERP implementations all around Australia.

Having started her career as an auditor at one of the big four firms, Belle continued in corporate accounting and was on track to becoming a financial controller when she made the leap to consulting. The rest, as they say, is history.

Now Belle is one of the most sought-after solution lead and project managers in the ERP space working with both large high-profile companies and medium-sized start-ups. Guided by her genuine willingness to help and an insatiable appetite for learning, Belle is transforming one company at a time using the most innovative cloud technologies.
