Tuesday, 31 October, 2017

5.30pm – 8pm | CPA Centre Level 3, 111 Harrington St

Bloomberg’s 2016 Job Skills Report showed that, for the finance industry, recruiters rate communication skills above ALL other skills.

That included quantitative skills, leadership ability, and analytical skills.

Having top technical skills doesn’t guarantee people will listen to you. In fact, people great with numbers often struggle with words.

Since most of a CPA’s communication is in writing, it’s critical you do it well.

So this month we’re excited to have corporate communications expert, Paul Jones, speak to us about The 10 Commandments of Business Writing.

'Is he gonna preach to us?'
No. But he will help you see the error of your ways when it comes to writing at work.

He'll cover the 10 Big Ones critical to you getting impact on the page, including how to:

  • Be clear and concise
  • Engage disinterested people
  • Trigger readers to action
  • Get your message across to busy skim-readers
  • Avoid embarrassing mistakes.
On the night, you'll also get a funky infographic reminding you of these blessed principles:

The 10X Your Life Model from a Seasoned CFO

Sometimes the financial freedom we all seek comes at the expense of other areas of our life. Don’t be the person who works hard to get to the top of the ladder to then realise that you’re on the wrong ladder or even worse that it’s been at the cost of your health, relationships and general well-being. There is no quick fix, but there are simple, easy to implement strategies you can use to achieve everything you desire and manage your entire “life” more effectively.

As a former corporate Chief Financial Officer, Karen brings a unique perspective; extensive business experience and hard-earned wisdom that she wished were available to her when she needed them.

You’ll learn:

  • Evaluate Your World: Learn what is getting in your way and stopping you from receiving everything you want.

  • Empower Yourself: Learn the easy to implement strategies that will give you more time, more energy and more love.

  • Embrace a New Perspective: Gone are the days where your only option to get ahead was to work harder; work smarter with these proven game changing strategies.

This session is a must for anyone looking for more time, better relationships, and more prosperity whilst being completely fulfilled in their personal and professional life.

As a former corporate Chief Financial Officer, Karen Chaston brings a unique perspective; extensive business experience and hard-earned wisdom that she wished were available to her when she needed them.

Karen Chaston ran on the corporate treadmill until the day the world came tumbling down on her head. The constant effort of juggling work, family, the big house and cars, and the stress created by all that was taking its toll on her even before tragedy struck when her son died at a young age.

Karen’s suffering and disappointments became the catalyst for personal and spiritual growth, leading to her creating her “10X Your Life” and “The Dream Maker” Programs.

For many women in business, we focus on money and profits.  Karen’s strategic approach combines her life experience and financial expertise to assist women specifically, shift their focus from stress and worrying to freedom and joy.

Best of all, Karen’s Chief Financial Life Model includes actionable systems women can take away and implement that keep you focused on the most important person in your life: YOU.

Engaging Stakeholders with Conversational Intelligence - WIB Discussion Group 27 June

Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 27 June 2017 | 5.45pm – 8pm | CPA Centre Level 3, 111 Harrington St
For our June session, we welcome Naomi Abbott to present:
Engaging Stakeholders with Conversational Intelligence
A Stanford University study has proven that 9 out of 10 conversations miss the mark.  Such inefficient conversations are extremely costly, highly frustrating and a waste of time. They can also erode people’s confidence if they feel that their message isn’t getting through with their stakeholders, or perhaps worse, they just aren’t understanding what their stakeholders want.
Conversational Intelligence®, also referred to as C-IQ, is a ground breaking, neuro-scientific framework that is revolutionizing entire industries, and profoundly shifting the way we interact and connect as human beings.
C-IQ is the hardwired, and learnable, ability to connect, navigate and grow with others through conversation. It provides us with frameworks for building trust, which is the human platform from which great conversations emerge, activating higher levels of engagement, strengthening partnerships, and catalysing co-creation and innovation in relationships, teams and cultures.
In this session, we will cover:
•             An overview of the neuroscience of conversations and the effect they have on relationships
•             The impact of trust and distrust on performance
•             The Conversational Intelligence® essentials that will help you transform your relationships with stakeholders, leaders, peers and team members.
Using these C-IQ essentials will help you build a better understanding of your customer's needs so you can provide them with the information that's of most value to them. You'll also be in a stronger position to collaborate effectively with colleagues on project teams and to navigate change.

Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 30 May 2017 | 5.45pm – 8pm

For our May session, we are delighted that Vicki Hartley, CFO of Lendi and Non-Executive Director for Dress for Success, will be sharing with us how being an accountant has given her the geographic flexibility to work internationally in London, Auckland and Sydney and how she is now using those skills to start a Non-Executive Director Portfolio.

Vicki will also speak about some of the challenges she has faced working in the traditionally male dominated areas of  investment banking and financial services and contrast that to her current experience as a Non-Executive Director on two charity and NFP boards that support women and as a result have almost 100% female staff and 100% female directors.

Vicki is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales.  She has over 25 years of Financial Services Experience in Australia and the United Kingdom.  Over her career she has worked in the auditing profession before moving to work at UBS and Deutsche Bank in London alongside the trading desks, before arriving in Australia and taking senior roles at QBE and Challenger.  More recently, Vicki has held the position as the CFO of Lendi, one of the largest Australian Fintech’s that is challenging the way Mortgage Brokers compare loans and services clients in the age of the internet and google advertising.
Alongside her role at Lendi, Vicki is a Non-Executive Director for Dress for Success Sydney and Domestic Violence NSW Service Management. Vicki’s accounting qualifications and experience has assisted her in being treasurer for both these Not for Profit/NGO organisations.

We are encouraging our members to support Dress for Success and bring along a good quality handbag or piece of business attire.  Please ensure that it is clean, current style, something you bought and only wore a few times or maybe it’s now too big (or too small) or the wrong colour, not active wear.  If you would give it to a friend then Dress for Success would love to take it.  Or you can make a gold coin donation on the night.

To attend, please RSVP to Reis at cpawibfb@gmail.com or via Facebook by 5pm Friday 26 May.
