We are welcoming Jennifer Dalitz, Dr. Margaret Drever, NSW CPA President, and Wai-Yee Chen on the discussion panel in September. They will share their stories and thoughts on How to Manage Your Career. Stella Petrou Concha from REO Recruitment will facilitate the discussion.

The panel

Jennifer Dalitz is obsessed with getting more women into leadership roles, in our workplaces and communities. That’s why she started sphinxx and why she writes about, speaks about, mentors and consults on topics related to working women and gender balance. Her expertise in this space has been recognised with an Edna Ryan Workplace Award for improving the working conditions of Australian women through sphinxx, and selection as a finalist in the 2010 NSW Telstra Business Awards.

Wai-Yee Chen is a CNBC and SKY Business Channel options presenter, author of OptionsWise and an options adviser with RBS Morgans.  Wai-Yee regularly contributes to magazines, blogs and speaks with investors at conferences, seminars and lectures. Wai-Yee is an advocate of using options to “arm you and not to harm you”. 

Dr. Margaret Drever is our NSW Divisional President for 2011. Currently an adjunct Associate Professor for Charles Sturt University and Director of Brumar Pty Ltd. Her qualifications are Bachelor of Commerce with a major in accounting and sub major in Law from University of Western Sydney, Master of Economics with specialization in accounting and entrepreneurship and a Doctor of Philosophy in small business accounting from University of New England, plus a Graduate Diploma in Technical Education from University of Technology, Sydney.

FMAA PSE Evening

The FMAA Professional Services Evening will be held this Wednesday 10th August at Deloitte Offices from 6pm - 8pm. The event consists of a one hour panel discussion with other Professional services firms for the benefit of students from University of Sydney and University of New South Wales and one hour networking session. 

Three CPA representatives will be attending on the night. The remaining panels and topics which are available are as follows. Please select ONE panel and ONE topic below the panel.

Excel with Andre Croteau

CPA Women in Business Discussion Group

We will have Andre Croteau, excel expert, back as guest speaker in August.

Andre will share the highlights from previous years, new discoveries and more following tips on:

Vlookups
Macro
Pivot Tables
Excel 2010

Andre suggests us to email the problems we have prior to the event. He will address it anonymous during Q&A time (around 20 minutes). The email address is cpawomen@gmail.com.

For the past few years, Andre has been contracting as an Excel Specialist. Most recent contracts have been with Tourism Australia and Chandler MacLeod where Andre has been introducing work procedures with the use of Microsoft Excel to simplify the work load. His passion is to make work more efficient through the help of Excel, by automating repetitive procedures, or speeding up the work flow he has created hundreds of applications and has save countless hours of work, particularly at month end.

  

Your Board Career

On the 26^th July more than sixty members welcomed Ruth Medd FCPA, Chair of Women on Boards to present on Your Board Career at CPA Centre in Sydney. In attendance at the meeting was NSW General Manager Anthony Matis, NSW President Margaret Drever and NSW Divisional Councillors Amy Wong & Gail Fraser.

Following Ruth’s presentation, the attendees participated in a robust Q&A session, facilitated by Julie Garland McLellan, CEO of Great Governance and a professional company director. General member feedback was positive, with members impressed by the quality of presenter and the Q&A and networking sessions which followed.

July 2011 Session

CPA Women in Business Discussion Group

The NSW Women in Business discussion group are welcoming Ruth Medd, Chair of Women on Board, as guest speaker and Julie Garland Mclellan,a practising company director who has served on 14 boards, as a moderator in July.

As the Chair of Women on Boards Ruth has developed initiatives and interventions to facilitate the improved participation of women in senior and board roles.  Women on Boards is recognised as a major player in the gender diversity debate.

Ruth’s experiences to date have enabled her to contribute her finance and business management expertise as well as her in depth understanding of the public policy, regulatory and business interface. 

Ruth will present on the following topics and provide attendees with a “personal to do list”

-       The story of Ruth Medd FCPA and how Women on Boards grew from a volunteer effort to a thriving social enterprise

-       Why CPAs as sought after as board members

-       What to think about when you are asked to join a board – personal liability, due diligence, etc

-       Strategies for establishing a board career  - tips on target selection, networking in the right places, marshalling your helpers

Then we will have Julie Garland McLellan to be the moderator for Q&A. Julie is a practising company director and has experience on a range of public sector and commercial boards. Julie has been internationally acclaimed as a leading expert on government sector governance. She is the author of three books on governance and the editor of the Director’s Dilemma newsletter which is read in 36 countries around the world.

Julie has a degree in Civil Engineering, an executive MBA, a diploma and an advanced diploma in company directorship.

Julie has served on 14 boards, both listed and unlisted, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ NSW Council.

Biography

Kate McCallum co-founded Multiforte in January 2007 - a boutique firm offering tailored financial advice to people who want to be financially well-organised.

Kate has more than 20 years experience in investment, superannuation and insurance. She has worked at senior levels in several leading financial services firms including Westpac/BT Financial Group, State Street and Commonwealth/Colonial.

She has managed superannuation and investment products and services for most of her career, and managed part of a major financial advice business.

Kate is a Board member of the Australian School of Business Alumni Advisory Board. A mentor in the Lucy Program and NSW Councilor for Women Chiefs of Enterprise (WCEI), Kate is passionate about helping women achieve financial independence.

Kate holds post-graduate qualifications in Commerce, Applied Finance and Investment, and Financial Planning.

Kate is regularly asked to present sessions for organisations and conferences, and is regularly featured in the Australian Financial Review and the Sydney Morning Herald.
