Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 25 October 2016 | 5.45pm – 8pm | CPA Centre Level 3, 111 Harrington St

This month, Dr Helena Popovic will be sharing with us how to “BOOST YOUR BRAIN”
Most people work on building up and boosting their financial assets. But how many people work on building up and boosting their greatest asset: their brain?
The emerging field of neuroplasticity has shown that the brain can change its own structure and function. It can grow new cells, new circuits and new connections in response to what we do, what we think and how we behave.
We are far more than passive victims of our genes: we play an active role in how our brains develop throughout our lives. However most of us are yet to realise the enormous personal power this gives us.
For the brain to stay healthy and operate at its best, we need the right nutrition, rest, stimulation, challenge and reward. Most importantly, we also need to take charge of our thinking because our thoughts play an integral role in wiring our brains for optimal performance.
This presentation distils the essence of the neuroplastic revolution and gives immediately implementable, practical suggestions to improve the functioning of the brain. By applying this knowledge, we can:
1.      sharpen our thinking
2.      improve concentration and memory – at any age
3.      tap into brain potential we never knew we had
4.      expand our creativity
5.      increase our capacity for learning and problem solving
6.      reduce our risk of developing depression, anxiety disorders and Alzheimer’s disease
7.      prevent the cognitive decline we’ve mistakenly believed was inevitable with ageing
8.      perform at our peak on a daily basis
9.      achieve far more than we ever thought possible
Dr Helena Popovic is a medical doctor, leading authority on how to improve brain function, international speaker and best-selling author. Since graduating from the University of Sydney in 1995 she has been paving the way for a new paradigm in peak health for peak performance. Helena is unique in bringing the latest discoveries in brain science to the field of weight management and she is the founder of a groundbreaking weight loss program called Winning at Slimming – thinking the light way. She is also the author of two books: In Search of My Father and NeuroSlimming – let your brain change your body. Her philosophy is that education is more powerful than medication and she believes in slow ageing despite fast living.

Women in Business Discussion Group Tuesday 23 February 2016 | 5.45pm – 8pm | CPA Centre Level 3, 111 Harrington St
For our first session of 2016 we welcome Dr Claire Scobie to present Storytelling for Leaders - How to ensure your message is heard in 2016
Have you ever delivered a presentation to your team and known they weren’t listening? It’s not a good feeling. At work we often forget to talk like we do with friends and family. We forget to tell stories and use anecdotes to illustrate what we are trying to say. We rely on power points, jargon and complex language. No wonder people stop listening.
Stories can influence in ways that stats can’t and those businesses that tell the best ones will thrive in the 21st-century. We are all hardwired to listen to stories, especially value-rich and motivating stories. They create meaning and connection between people. Too often we roll out a new strategy with data and facts, giving our team little reason to listen let alone implement the strategy. If a leader can harness the power of story it has a better chance to stick.
Dr Claire Scobie works with medium to large companies on how to harness the power of storytelling during times of change. She is accredited to deliver the Storytelling for Leaders™ program under license from Anecdote. She particularly enjoys working with women who want to accelerate their careers and communicate more effectively so their message is heard. Claire is the award-winning author of Last Seen in Lhasa, The Pagoda Tree and Basser, Baxter & Goldstein. She writes for numerous publications including Acuity, the Sydney Morning Herald and London’s Daily Telegraph; mentors corporate leaders; gives keynotes and facilitates workshops; and hosts literary tours to India with Abercrombie & Kent. In 2013 she completed a Doctor of Creative Arts degree at the University of Western Sydney. www.wordstruck.com.au.

To attend, please RSVP to Reis at cpawibfb@gmail.com or via Facebook by 5pm Friday 19 February.
